Gjengivelsen av NEJM-artikkelen vedrørende hjemmefødsel i Tidsskriftet er dessverre svært unyansert og mangelfull. I materialet var det mangelfull seleksjon til hjemmefødsel, sammenliknet med europeiske forhold: Kvinner med preeklampsi, svangerskapsdiabetes, tidligere sectio og overtidige svangerskap fødte hjemme, og majoriteten ble forløst av personell som ikke anses forløsningskompetente etter norsk/europeisk standard, derunder "direct entry/lay midwives" og "naturopathic doctors".
Videre var det ingen forskjell i utfall før overflytninger ble omklassifisert som hjemmefødsel, noe som kan tyde på at sen overflytning/mangelfull integrering av hjemmefødsel i helsehjelpen er en sterkt bidragende faktor til uheldige utfall.
I gruppen som hadde planlagt sykehusfødsel ble hele 24% av kvinnene forløst med keisersnitt, noe som er uttrykk for en betydelig overbehandling.
